February 18, 2017 | notthischarter The Charter consolidates our current 18 precincts into 9 new districts. The proposed City Council will be made up of one person from each district plus two councilors elected ‘at large’ who can be from any district. There are no checks to ensure that the two ‘at large’ councilors are not elected from the same district. This means that three councilors could be from one district. Fair and balanced representation, this is not. Power is concentrated in too few hands Your representation will be diluted when our 18 precincts are consolidated into 9 new districts, diminishing your voice. The small number of districts allows total control by the mayor and as few as 6 councilors. City Council decisions can be controlled by a minority of districts (when 2 at-large councilors align with 4 district councilors).
